Your 100% silk stitched shibori scarf is made by Zuber and Imran Khatri, proprietors of Zia Bandhani, a small enterprise based in the Kuchchh region of Gujarat, India, a region known for its rich textile heritage. The borthers are artisan-designers and graduates of a design school started by Judy Fraterm, an American textile designer and social anthropologist based in the region. Armed with the knowledge gained at the design school, they have used their traditional skills in bandhani (a traditional Indian tie-dye technique) to innovate new designs, creating these scarves using a Japanese resist-dye method known as shibori. The borders of these scarves are created using a complex hand-block-print technique called "ajrakh", also made by Kuchchh artisans.
